At Watches and Wonders 2025, F.P. Journe unveiled the latest iteration of its Chronomètre Furtif, now crafted in tungsten carbide—a material renowned for its exceptional hardness and durability. This release follows the brand’s 2024 Only Watch edition, which featured a tantalum case and bracelet.
Innovative Materials and Design
The 2025 Chronomètre Furtif introduces tungsten carbide to F.P. Journe’s lineup, a material more commonly found in industrial applications than in haute horlogerie. This nearly indestructible alloy is paired with polished tantalum elements, creating a sophisticated and robust timepiece. The 42mm case and integrated bracelet feature alternating sand-blasted and polished finishes, enhancing the watch’s subtle allure.
The dial is crafted from white gold and adorned with mirror-polished, anthracite grey Grand Feu enamel. It features matte-finished numerals and a minute track that remain hidden until the watch is tilted, revealing them only to the wearer. This design choice emphasizes discretion and personal connection.
Mechanical Excellence
At the heart of the Chronomètre Furtif lies the hand-wound Calibre 1522, a manually wound movement crafted in 18K rose gold. This calibre marks a first for F.P. Journe by featuring direct central seconds. The movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 56 hours. Finishing details include circular graining on the baseplate, polished chamfers on the steel components, and mirror-polished screw heads.
The F.P. Journe Chronomètre Furtif 2025 stands as a testament to the brand’s dedication to blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. Its serene aesthetic, combined with mechanical prowess, offers a timepiece that is both visually captivating and functionally exceptional.
