INSIDE GPHG ACADEMY’S INAUGURAL WORLD TOUR SHANGHAI 2025

The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) kicked off its 2025 World Tour in Shanghai, showcasing 84 nominated timepieces in a stunning exhibition organized with Hantang Culture.

Yesterday, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) officially launched its 2025 World Tour in the historic setting of Bund 33, Shanghai, marking a milestone moment in contemporary watchmaking. The event, organized in partnership with Hantang Culture, offered a first glimpse at the 84 timepieces nominated by the GPHG Academy, celebrating innovation, craftsmanship, and the artistry of fine horology.

For watch enthusiasts and aficionados in the region, the exhibition provides a rare opportunity to admire the most extraordinary creations from more than 50 renowned brands. The setting itself reflects a profound cultural dialogue: inspired by the Chinese cyclical perception of time, the exhibition symbolizes humanity’s eternal fascination with exploring life on both microscopic and infinite scales.

Jessica Yu, Founder and President of Hantang Culture, remarked: “Hosting the GPHG in Shanghai is not only a celebration of the art of watchmaking, but also an invitation for the public to rediscover the culture of time. It is a powerful statement of renewed confidence across the industry.” For over two decades, Hantang Culture has shared stories of craftsmanship and artistry through exhibitions, fairs, and cultural initiatives, making this collaboration a natural extension of its mission.

Raymond Loretan, President of the Foundation of the GPHG, added: “China has wholeheartedly embraced contemporary watchmaking. Launching our world tour in Shanghai holds special significance as a dynamic hub where cultural heritage and innovation converge. We are grateful to Hantang Culture for its impeccable organization, which allows the watchmaking world to connect with the Chinese perception of time.”

The Shanghai exhibition will run until 8 October, after which the GPHG 2025 World Tour will continue to Istanbul from 15 to 20 October, Geneva’s Musée d’Art et d’Histoire from 29 October to 16 November, and finally Dubai Watch Week from 19 to 23 November. Visitors will have the chance to view 90 nominated timepieces—including 84 watches and 6 mechanical clocks—vying for 20 prestigious prizes, including the coveted “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix, to be awarded on 13 November in Geneva.

With this inaugural stop in Shanghai, the GPHG World Tour not only celebrates the art and precision of watchmaking but also reinforces the importance of cultural exchange, bridging East and West through a shared passion for time. For connoisseurs and the curious alike, the exhibition promises an unforgettable experience—a journey through time itself.
