The 2026 Lexus Trestles Pro concluded at Lower Trestles with Erin Brooks and Miguel Pupo taking the women’s and men’s titles respectively, as the World Surf League Championship Tour reached its ninth stop of the season.
For Brooks, the victory marked a third consecutive Championship Tour win. The 19-year-old Canadian has now continued a remarkable run through the second half of the season, following victories in Tahiti and Fiji with another final-day performance at one of the tour’s most recognised venues.
Brooks faced Gabriela Bryan in the women’s final, taking the lead with a 7.00 before adding a 6.00 late in the heat. Bryan responded with a 6.33 and 5.57, but ultimately fell short of the 6.68 required to move back in front. Brooks finished with a 13.00 heat total to Bryan’s 11.90.
The road to the final included a quarterfinal victory over then World No. 1 Carissa Moore, where Brooks recorded a 15.33 heat total, followed by a semifinal win against reigning World Champion Molly Picklum. The result at Trestles moves Brooks to World No. 5 in the Championship Tour rankings.
Bryan leaves Lower Trestles with the runner-up finish and retains the Yellow Leaders Jersey, remaining at the front of the women’s World Title race as the season moves toward its decisive stages.
In the men’s final, Miguel Pupo secured his second Championship Tour victory of 2026, edging Kanoa Igarashi 14.77 to 14.40 in a closely fought finish.
Igarashi held the advantage early in the heat, but Pupo responded with an 8.50 before adding a 7.67. With the final approaching its conclusion, Pupo found a 6.27 to take the lead, leaving Igarashi needing a 5.90 to regain first place. The score never came, and Pupo held on through the final horn.
The victory is Pupo’s third career Championship Tour win and his first at Lower Trestles, where he previously claimed a Qualifying Series victory in 2011. It also moves him to World No. 4 in the rankings.
Pupo’s run to the final included a quarterfinal victory over Mateus Herdy before a 16.00 semifinal heat total against Cole Houshmand. Igarashi advanced through the opposite side of the draw, defeating Marco Mignot in the quarterfinal and Yago Dora in the semifinal.
For Igarashi, the runner-up finish adds another significant result to a season that brought him back to the final at a venue closely connected to his upbringing. Born and raised in Huntington Beach, the Japanese surfer spent much of his childhood surfing at Lower Trestles.
With the Lexus Trestles Pro complete, attention now turns toward the remaining stages of the 2026 Championship Tour.
The next stop is the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, scheduled for October 16–25, before the tour continues to the Philippines and ultimately concludes at Pipeline in Hawaii.
At Trestles, Brooks extended her winning run to three consecutive Championship Tour events, while Pupo added another victory to his 2026 campaign. Both leave Southern California with momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
