In a bold fusion of cutting-edge engineering and avant-garde design, Swiss startup SP80 has partnered with Richard Mille to pursue a seemingly impossible feat — breaking the world sailing speed record using only wind power. Their goal: 80 knots, or roughly 150 km/h.

Engineering the Future of Speed

SP80’s vessel, nicknamed the “Sea Rocket,” is far from a traditional sailboat. Its futuristic, kite-powered design borrows elements from aerospace and Formula 1, combining a lightweight carbon fiber frame with a tri-hull configuration for stability at high speed. The power source? A massive kite harnessing pure wind energy — no engines, no emissions.

Beyond the Horizon

The SP80 team is currently in the testing phase, aiming for an official attempt in 2025. If successful, the Sea Rocket will rewrite what’s possible in sustainable marine propulsion and aerodynamic innovation.

As the world watches, one thing is certain — this is more than a speed record attempt. It’s a bold statement on the future of clean, high-performance technology.
